RESVERATROL VS CANCER AND OTHER DISEASES


Is it really true? Is there an answer to slowing down the aging process? Is there a cure for diabetes? And finally, Is there a cure fore cancer?


Resveratrol, a type of polyphenol called a phytoalexin, a class of compounds produced by plants as part of the plant’s defense system against disease. It is produced in the plant in response to an invading fungus, stress, injury, infection, or ultraviolet irradiation. Red wine contains high levels of resveratrol, as do grapes, raspberries, peanuts, and other plants.

Can Resveratrol Cure Cancer?

Resveratrol has been shown to reduce tumor incidence in animals by affecting one or more stages of cancer development. It has been shown to inhibit growth of many types of cancer cells in culture. Evidence also exists that it can reduce inflammation. It also reduces activation of NF kappa B, a protein produced by the body’s immune systemmetastasis. Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant. Breast Cancer? Resveratrol and a similair molecule triacetyl-resveratrol slow down the proliferation in breast cancer cells by utilizing largely similar signaling molecules and pathways and cellular events according to a study conducted by the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY 

Prostate Cancer? According to the American Cancer Institute  studies published in the International Journal of Cancer show that drinking a glass of red wine a day may cut a man’s risk of prostate cancer in half and that this approach appears to be more effective against the most aggressive forms of the disease. Also, it appears that men who drink more 4oz glasses of red wine (see resveratrol vs red wine below) per week have a lower incidence (60%) of the more aggressive types of prostate cancer.

Additionally, researchers have found the The muscadine grape (Vitis rotundifolia) is distinct from the more common red grapes used to produce red wines, and is a major source of resveratrol. The speical red grape is unique in the research of prostate cancer prevention. The chemical constituents of muscadine grapes differ from most other grape varieties, as they are richer in chemicals called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins, which produce the red and purple colors of the grapes, have strong antioxidant activity and have shown several antitumor effects, including inhibition of DNA synthesis in breast cancer cells, of blood vessel growth in some tumors, and of enzymes involved in tumor spread. Current drug-eluting stents — rigid, medicine-coated frameworks that prop open an affected blood vessel — are designed to prevent re-narrowing. But the current generation of stents are sometimes accompanied by complications such as clot formation. The clot risk appears to stem from the vessel’s failure to quickly re-establish its endothelial lining, an important component of the vascular healing process that helps to prevent re-narrowing of the artery.
Researchers from Louisiana State University using a polymer with combinations of two bioactive chemicals, resveratrol and quercetin found in red wine showed that the coating combinations released the healthful chemicals at levels that could inhibit cellular processes that promote re-narrowing of blood vessels. Resveratrol also promoted endothelial cell growth essential to re-establishing vessel lining, despite adverse conditions. 

Red wine and resveratrol ~ Good for your heart?

Well by now you know that Red Wine has something in it called resveratrol that has proven to have many benefits. But what about heart health?
Researchers have found that Red wine, in moderation may help prevent heart disease by increasing levels of “good” cholesterol and protecting against artery damage.The baic belief, the resveratrol/antiocidants are packed with heart healthy benefits. The American Heart Association (AHA) warns not to begin consuming red wine to get a daily intake resveratrol. They claim on average one to two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women should be okay. However, they claim the negative side effects of drinking red wine may be more harmful than the benefits of resveratrol. Consuming large amounts of alcohol increases the dangers of alcoholism, high blood pressure, obesity, stroke, breast cancer, suicide and accidents.
